(Liberty Bell) – When it comes to gun control, proponents of increasing regulation on gun ownership rely on emotionalism and drama to bolster their position.
When it comes to actual data, their arguments quickly fall flat.
The left, particularly the Democratic primary candidates, have been loudly calling for bans on so-called “assault rifles,” including the commonly-owned AR-15 rifle.
The narrative is that because a handful of psychopaths with mental issues and no stable father figure have decided to commit horrific murder, all of our rifles should be banned, just to be safe.
The reality about why the majority of Americans are killed an with which kind of weapon pours cold water on this notion.
According to FBI crimes stats for 2018, over five times as many people were killed with knives and/or other cutting instruments as were killed with rifles.
The data shows a total of 1,515 deaths with knives and/or cutting instruments, which is considerably more than the 297 deaths by rifles in 2018.

All the cries for AR-15s to be banned and they’re killing significantly fewer Americans than many other causes, of death, including homicides by knives, car accidents, obesity, and opioid overdoses.
This data shows that the gap between murders with knives vs. murders with rifles has grown since 2017, when nearly four times as many people were stabbed to death as killed with rifles.
The number of murders with a rifle was around 400 for the year 2017, dropping to 297 in 2018.
Also in 2018, over 100 more people were killed with hammers and clubs than with rifles in 2018.

The category of rifles includes all kinds of rifles, bolt action, semiautomatic, and pump and lever action. So, if you were to contrast deaths from hammers and clubs, or knives and cutting implements, would be far greater if you were to isolate it to simply deaths from semiautomatic rifles, many of which are these so-called “assault rifles.”
Simply dozens of people are killed each year with AR-15s.
Meanwhile, Beto O’Rourke is calling for mandatory gun buybacks! Can you even imagine? This bozo actually thinks this would stop mass-shootings, somehow, something that earned him a tweet from the president.
“Dummy Beto made it much harder to make a deal,” President Trump wrote. “Convinced many that Dems just want to take your guns away. Will continue forward!”
Beto gained his flailing campaign a fair amount of attention by declaring “Hell yes we’re going to take your AR-15″ during the last Democrat debate.
President Trump meanwhile, has promised to protect the Second Amendment.
“Left-wing Democrats want to confiscate your guns and eliminate your God-given right to self-defense,” he told supporters during a rally in New Mexico last month, adding, “As your president, I will never allow them to take away your liberty, your dignity, … and I will never, ever, allow them to take away your sacred right to keep and bear arms.”
